Prerequisite: Admission to the LPN to RN option.
This course focuses on the needs of the student returning to the academic environment, and is intended to expand the knowledge and skills of the LPN. This course focuses on the knowledge, skills, values, and experiences needed for the role transition from LPN to RN. Upon completion of the course the student is eligible to enroll in the second year of the nursing program.

This course focuses on the skill set required to perform a comprehensive health history and physical exam. Emphasis is on communication skills which facilitate the development of a holistic data base for health assessment across the lifespan.

This course introduces the student to the professional discipline of nursing. Phenomena affecting functional, physiologic, psychosocial and environmental health are examined within a holistic model of care. Emphasis is on health promotion and illness prevention with emphasis on the stable older adult population.

NURS 1280 Pathophysiologic Phenomena for

This course focuses on the pathophysiologic processes involving stress responses, immune function, cellular proliferation, fluid / electrolyte and acid/base disturbances and specific disease states in the adult population. As a basis for nursing practice, students will link manifestations, diagnostic studies, complications and disease management modalities to specific pathologic processes and disease states.

NURS 2250 Clinical Internship, 1 credit
Prerequisites: Successful completion of two semesters in an associate degree nursing program. Acceptance into an approved health care facility clinical internship program, or by agreement and permission by instructor
This elective clinical internship course provides learning opportunities to apply nursing theory with nursing practice. The focus is on gaining depth of understanding of the role of the registered nurse as well as strengthening nursing skills in the clinical setting. Students will be precepted by nurses in the practice setting and by nursing faculty.

This course will expand on the nurse’s role as leader and explore his/her role as advocate for nursing and change agent within the healthcare system. The emphasis is now on the potential of the nurses’ role in the current healthcare delivery system and in the future of health care.
NURS 2258 Preceptorship, 1 credit
Prerequisites: NURS 1150, NURS 1151, NURS 1152
This course is designed to provide the student with comprehensive clinical experiences. This will be accomplished through a formal triad (learning team) the preceptor, student, and nursing faculty. This direct patient care experience will occur once during the sophomore year of the nursing program.
NURS 2260 Nutrition of the Individual in Health
and Illness, 2 credits
Open to RNs, LPNs, and second-year nursing students
Provides information concerning the correlation between anatomy, physiology, good health and food. Describes the role of nutrients in digestion, absorption and metabolism. Provides information to make wise consumer choices of food selection, labeling and additives. The five stages of the life cycle are discussed. Diet therapy rationale for the pathologic conditions of the cardiovascular system, gastrointestinal tract, renal system is presented.
NURS 2263 The Nurse’s Role in Intravenous
Therapy, 1 credit
Open to RNs, LPN Mobility students and second-year nursing students
Emphasis on nursing responsibilities related to intravenous therapy. Standard components of infusion equipment, legal issues, and common policies and procedures of intravenous therapy will be studied. Simulated laboratory experience will provide the student with opportunities to examine and work with components of intravenous therapy.

This course incorporates management and leadership principles, including advocacy and change management within a framework that includes the present and future of the nursing profession. It is also designed to provide the student with comprehensive clinical experiences in patient management.
NURS 2584 Pharmacology for Nurses and Related
Health Professionals, 2 credits
Prerequisites: Student enrolled in a nursing program, RN or LPN licensure, enrollment in the Clinical
Research Certificate program or instructor consent
This course introduces the health professional student to the principles underlying pharmacology. A framework for approaching the study of pharmacotherapeutics will be developed including pharmaceutical research and regulation, major classifications and clinical management.
