Integrating Unique Studies

Hometown: I currently live in Maple Grove, Minn., although I lived in Oklahoma for most of my life.
Program: I took selected classes in the Integrative Health and Healing (IHH) program at Anoka-Ramsey and transferred them to Metropolitan State where they applied towards an Individualized Bachelor of Arts degree that I designed myself. Because of the articulation agreement between the two schools, all of my classes transferred seamlessly.
I am a full-time student in the master of science program at American Academy of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in
Roseville. Since I was accepted into the master’s program as a senior, also finishing up my last couple of classes at Metropolitan State University part-time.
Why did you choose Anoka-Ramsey: Because of the IHH program specifically and its uniqueness. I was unaware of any other program like it at the undergraduate level. The quality of instructors has also been phenomenal. It really shows when someone has a passion for what they teach.
Best Aspect of Anoka-Ramsey: I would have to say the best thing has been the wonderful people I have met in the IHH program! From the very first semester, many of us have become inseparable friends.
Courses Taken: Human body, introduction to holistic healing, energy healing, movement/body manipulation, introduction to qigong
Family: Married—husband, Deric and seven-year-old son, Devon
Past/Current Jobs: I have practiced yoga since 1996 and have taught casually. I also taught energy healing and meditation full-time from 2005 through 2007.
Dream Job: I would love to teach in higher education while having the opportunities to practice Chinese medicine, write, lecture and travel.
Future Plans: I plan to pursue doctoral studies in the future, but for now, first things first. Ever since my first semester of college in 1998, I have known two things—I will not be “done” with school until my name is preceded by “Dr.,” and I want to teach at the college level.
Wild Dream: I would be honored to be able to provide medical care for people in places where healthcare is limited or non-existent.
One thing people should know about you: I believe the deepest source of inspiration for my pursuit of knowledge regarding integrative healing has to do with my heritage.
