Opportunity for Incoming Freshman to Earn $200 and Gain Tools for Success in College
Anoka-Ramsey's Success Stepping into College (SSIC) program provides high school graduates the opportunity to start college early to get familiar with the college setting and college instruction.
SSIC is designed to enable 40 recent secondary school graduates from underserved populations interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to effectively transition into and be successful in postsecondary programs. Its primary activities will be an intensive summer STEM bridge experience, followed by an academic year wrap-around support program.
The college STEM and counseling faculty will provide classroom and lab instruction during the summer and the college’s various student support staff, coordinated by multicultural affairs, will deliver services during the academic months.
Instructional and student development methods employed will be research-based and widely agreed to be effective with similar populations. The overall objectives of the program are for participants to prepare for and enroll in STEM courses during their first year of postsecondary education. Such a start will serve as a foundation for their further academic achievement.
